Entry

  • Directions: Interstate 26 Exit at Erwin/Jonesborough Turn right onto Tennessee Highway 107 (John Sevier Highway). After a mile, Highway 107 turns left onto North Main Avenue. After 6 miles, turn right onto Rock Creek Road (Highway 395). After 4 miles, Highway 395 becomes North Carolina Highway 197 to Poplar. Go over Unaka Mountain on Highway 197 to Cross Road Pound Mill Bridge Road and the US Forestry Service Poplar Boat Launch.
  • Directions from Poplar Boat Launch to campground : Exiting the Poplar Boat launch, turn right (southeast) onto Highway 197. After about 10 miles, you will see Pound Mill Branch Road on the left. The campground is at 11012 Highway 197 which is on a steep curve with a large Barn hanging out on the left.  Look for a sign on the building coming up the drive that reads "Somewhere In Time Antiques".

What We Saw

Views on the River vary. Caves and natural waterfall's are plentiful. View to Creeks and River from Campground.

From the Toe River Entrance in Loafers Glory, NC through rapids of Class 1 and 3 whitewater to the Nolichucky River in Green Mountain North Carolina which would be the Poplar Boat Launch. Which would be Highway 226 North to Highway 197 North.

En route you will pass many different roads such as Hobo Town, Whitson's Store, Pigeon Roost Rd., Peterson's Store at Huntday and into Honeycutt Hollar onto the Nolichucky River.

To stay the night at our campground, from the Poplar Boat Launch take Highway 197 North to you get to cross road of Pound Mill Branch Rd. Steep Curve Barn hanging out on the Left.

Next morning you may raft or kayak the Nolichucky River from the Poplar Boat Launch into the Poplar Gorge that reaches to Erwin, Tennessee.

We offer shuttle services to all points on river.
